Don't be shy, post stuff on here!

I just finished watching the movie. It is clear that our main focus will be on cultural and racial aspects, but also we might want to think about patriarchy between the different families. Similar to the exercise we did in class about the organizational aspect of the family. How does the communication get through? Who decides on the major decisions? who has the ultimatr power?

Jess’s family: It seems like the mom has the most power when it comes to the main decisions since the father was less strict on wanting his daughter playing soccer. Since the father dealt with racism when he was younger and wanted to play back in the day, he didn’t think Jess would have any chance in playing soccer for a major league. He soon learns that his daughter has amazing skills and racial aspects are not getting in the way.
Jess’s family is very culturally oriented and has a strong family bond compared to Jules and coach Joe.

Jules’s Family: Her mother is more concerned with her daughter being too boyish or becoming a lesbian. She’s always trying to make her more girly and stop playing soccer. Her father encourages her to play soccer and in the end makes her mother understand what soccer is all about and how important it is for their daughters happiness.

Coach Joe’s family: How he went into soccer to show his father he’s not a “softy”, but he was embarrassed to tell him that he was coaching a girl’s team. So he avoids communication with his dad because they ‘didn’t have anything to talk about anymore, since he wasn’t doing what his dad wanted him to do’.
